The Building

The Digital World Centre is a highly prominent 72,406 sq ft office building which is located opposite MediaCityUK, the new home of the BBC. The building is curtain glazed and its unique pattern actually spells ‘Digital World Centre, Salford Quays’ in binary!

In the quest for innovation, the more traditional needs for office occupiers have not been overlooked. BBC's Planned Move To Salford

In January 2007 the BBC confirmed that their move to Salford's 200 acre mediacity:uk will be going ahead after much speculation in the latter months of 2006. The BBC plan to transfer five departments, including Sport, Children's and Radio Five Live, to Salford by 2011 along with 1,500 jobs.


This historic move by the BBC has triggered the beginning for Salford's mediacity:uk and much interest has been shown by other media and technology companies.
 In the latter months of 2006, Granada confirmed that they were exploring the possibility of moving a number of their operations from their Manchester Quay Street site. Further, Salford University has confirmed that it will move its entire arts, media and social sciences departments to the mediacity:uk site.
